Things That Go Rump in the Night
About that rumpus going on on Water Street… Got your attention, didn’t I? Through slushy and bone-dry winter 2012 days, the new Rumpus Room has been seizing the pre- and post-concert (at the Marcus Center) crowd with Scotch eggs and fish and chips. Joe Bartolotta makes a foray into gastropubs. Chef Andrew Ruiz has made a few menu additions and created a dish to write on the chalkboard every night of the week. The three new entrées: shoulder tenderloin with bourbon onion demi, potato puree and crispy onions; Chicken Two Ways (the breast, seared and roasted; the thigh, braised and sautéed with mushrooms and spinach); and organic salmon with carrot puree, chard and mushrooms ($17-$24). And daily specials? Let me elaborate. Tuesday: spaghetti with Strauss veal meatballs; Wednesday: bangers with warm potato salad and cabbage; Friday: seafood stew; Saturday: pot roast with carrots, potatoes and pearl onions. Kitchen hours: Mon-Fri 11 a.m.-midnight; Sat 11 a.m.-midnight; Sun 10 a.m.-10 p.m. (brunch 10 a.m.-2 p.m.) (1030 N. Water St., 414-292-0100)
Frozen Future
The excitement is building in Milwaukee Magazine’s Third Ward office. You see, when someone says “frozen yogurt,” people jump. Visibly. There’s something about the sound of vanilla froyo topped with assorted crispies and crunchies. Later this spring, the Ward will be the stomping grounds of My Yo My! (100 S. Water St., Unit 100, a block north of Stack’d Burger Bar). Have you heard of a froyo shop whose name was not a pun? There isn’t much to look at on the shop’s website, but it might come in handy down the road. The yogurt machines will pump out 10 flavors each day. You’ll be able to smother your yo with toppings, then weigh before you pay. The space looks like a construction zone right now, but the owner is shooting for an April opening.
