The Atlantic recently published an animated map of the incredible growth of the obesity rate across the country. Inspired, I tracked down county-level diabetes rates in Wisconsin from the Center for Disease Control and created a similar map. The effect is similar. In 2004, only one county (Menominee) had a rate greater than 9.4 percent. In 2009, 16 did.
In 2004, Menominee County had a 9.8 rate; in 2009, 12.5. In 2004, Milwaukee County had a rate of 7.7; in 2009, 10. To see all of the CDC’s data, check out the interactive map.
