Lovell writes:

Dear UWM Faculty, Staff and Students,

I am very pleased to tell you that a member of our UWM leadership team has been nominated by President Barack Obama to serve in a position at the United Nations.

Vice Chancellor Joan M. Prince, who has been an integral part of the UWM family for four decades, is to become Alternate Representative of the United States to the Sixty-seventh Session of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

The appointment, with the rank of Ambassador, has been tentatively approved by the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations, with full voice vote from the Senate floor expected later this month. She will be sworn in by the President and Ambassador Susan E. Rice on Sept. 18 and will begin her duties as the United States diplomatic representative with the opening of the General Assembly later that day.

Please join me in congratulating Joan on her nomination to serve our country. She will continue to be a vital and contributing member of the UWM family during her appointment and is sure to open more doors for international opportunities for our students, faculty and staff.

The announcement can be found on the website of the Office of the Press Secretary at The White House.

Best,

Michael R. Lovell
Chancellor
