Valerie Aliwarga, freelance make up artist at Blush Beauty Boutique, gives us her foolproof tips for getting the season’s hottest look, the red lip. As seen on runways as well as chic ladies everywhere, Ms. Aliwarga knows how to plump, primp and prime your precious pucker! LOL!!! Here are her simple tips:
“When striving for the perfect red lip, lip primer is ideal to prep the lip and prevent feathering of the lip color. Whether you are using a lip primer or not, lip liner is a must for the perfect red lip. Some prefer to use their lip liner as the base for the lip. If you are using a lip liner color that is neutral, then line the lip as well as filling in the entire lip. This is the technique for using the lip liner as a base. When using a red lip liner that compliments the red lipstick of your choice, line lips and then shade the lips by filling in the outer most portion of your lip line while the center of your lip stays the color of your natural lip. This will help to create a more voluptuous lip.”

Color needs to be experimented with, so make sure that you try on quite a few shades of red to find the one that feels most natural to you. Lots of ladies are a little afraid when it comes to wearing red, but fear not, Aliwarga has more tips in store for you!

“When choosing your perfect lip color start by thinking of the sheen you prefer, either matte or glossy. Consider colors like a deep warm burnt red, a plum red, a bright orange red, or a classic red lip. A concealer can also be used as a great tool to outline lips. This is a make up artists secret to not only make the lips pop, but also keep the red lip line crisp and perfect, while preventing the feathering of your lip color. After using the concealer, apply your favorite red lip straight from the stick or use a lip brush for a more precise look.”
Come on Milwaukee ladies, (and maybe some of you gents?) and pay some lip service to holiday glamour now, and you’ll be pretty as a picture for the new year to come!
