Manager and designer Julie Drollinger says Valentine’s Day and Mother’s Day are the shop’s two best-selling holidays. “I just like the fact that people are buying flowers for their mothers,” Julie says.

Grande Flowers is also keen on the trend of plant aquariums, which you can also find at the Garden Room. These center pieces or window props consist of your choice of stones, sand and plants arranged inside a glass aquarium.

Mother’s Day is “a happy day” for Julie, as the store sells between 1,000 and 1,500 roses. “And that is just the roses,” she says. Aside from flower arrangements, you can find cards ($1.99) and Burke Candy gourmet chocolates. “People come in just to buy the chocolates,” she says, “and I can’t stay away from them either.”

Grande Flowers is happy to deliver with a $30 minimum order (plus $8.99 delivery charge) to get your mom a special floral treat. “We love custom orders for flower arrangements,” Julie says. “Then we know someone will be happy.”

Another must-stop Mother’s Day store is the Garden Room in Shorewood.  From plants to tea accessories, gardening tools to candles, this store has it all for your mother dearest.  For her green thumb, try a folding garden kneeler, or a colorful garden trug.

To give her a moment of relaxation, try a hand-painted tea decanter whose designs mirror the textiles of Kashmir, a state in Northern India.  The strokes of bright colors will provide a pop of sun.  To enhance her relaxation, try the hand-carved candles.  Made by a husband and wife in California, these candles have a charming and elegant appeal that any mom would want on display in her home.  The best part? When the wax burns out, the outer carving remains so all you have to do is pop in a votive cup (available for purchase) to illuminate the design.

Mom might need a reminder of who her favorite child is, so why not spoil her with a charming necklace? UnCommon Items on Brady St. has both delicate pieces as well as chunky summer styles. If you’re feeling risque,  you can even put an outfit together for mom and treat her to a nice lunch date. For the cool days, try a long-sleeved blouse and sweater to cover up. For the days in the sun, get her a  wide-brimmed sun hat — glamorous and practical.

UnCommon Items also offers a variety of all-natural perfumes, which make for a thoughtful and unique gift. We recommend French Lilac or Indian Coconut Nectar. The boutique also carries a wide variety of purses, handbags and wallets.

Happy shopping!
