I first met Goran back in 1997 while working for a local sound company. Having worked in the Music business for over 20 years, I am frequently asked who the nicest artists I have worked for have been and it is always an easy answer, The Gufs. So what does the band have in store for their fans? Well it’s hard to say. Speaking with Goran it was both saddening and intriguing. His tone was of an artist who is excited to see what lays ahead of him in terms of creativity. Living part time in the Nashville area, Goran is in a place of renewed energy. Don’t get me wrong, you won’t see Goran in a cowboy hat, but in terms of songwriters, Nashville has some of the best in the business.

In terms of performing on stage, Goran stated that he has been there and done that and it is clear his love and appreciation for The Gufs fans runs deep. After 25 years, the band is in a place where they are not quite ready to announce their retirement, though a tour or a new record is not in the picture either. As Goran put it, he is not sure if the band should burn out or fade away. If I was a betting man, I would say it’s in every Gufs fans best interest to watch for them to play out this year, because there is no promise of what the future holds for the band. So if you hope to see The Gufs this year It wouldn’t be a bad idea to contact Summerfest about getting The Gufs on this years line up, as Summerfest for some very strange had passed them up last year.
As with my conversation with Goran, this short article will conclude with an open ended feel. No definitive answers as to the bands future, but a positive and hopeful road ahead for a group of truly good guys, and great musicians.
