“…an agreeably nutty late summer ride.” Robert Abele, Los Angeles Times
“Tediously one-note comedy.” Michael Rechtshaffen, The Hollywood Reporter
It’d sure be nice if comedies could aim higher than raunchy jokes and characters spewing the F-word more times than Scarface. Alas, the sophomoric Goods does exactly that. Greatly resembling Talladega Nights (unsurprisingly co-produced by the same team), this story about a cocky car salesman (Piven) hired to revive a financially failing dealership, isn’t nearly as funny. There’s some laugh-out loud funny jokes, especially from Helms who’s in an over 30 “man band,” and the movie’s great if you’re in the mood for comedy that’s so ridiculously stupid it’s hilarious. The movie, however, quickly runs out of gas and is bogged down by unbelievable, half-baked storylines.
