The Fashionista Meets A Power Ranger

What happens when you get a Power Ranger (yes, from the hit TV series) on the phone with a fashion blogger? The unexpected, of course. I had the chance to speak to Walter Jones whose character was Zack on the show. What I wanted to know: What is he up to now? What does he know about Milwaukee? And most importantly: Is he a Packer fan? Fashionista: How long were you a Power Ranger? Walter Jones: two years and a few episodes of the third season.

I was the original black Power Ranger, known as Zack Taylor.

F: At your time during the filming of the “Power Rangers,” was there a lesson that really stuck with you through the years? One that others hoping for an acting career could benefit from?

WJ: Get a lot of rest. Sometimes you’re up in the morning at 5 a.m. for hair and makeup and you have a 16 hour day of filming ahead of you. And you have to do it again the next day. It’s a lot of responsibility and you have to be ready for it.

F: Did you ever try on the pink Power Ranger’s suit?

WJ: Just for parties. I’m kidding. I may have tried on the helmet, but that’s it.

F: What have you been up to since the show?

WJ: I’ve been doing a lot of voice overs, TV commercials and helping with post production. I’m also a world champion salsa dancer. Now I teach private lessons with celebrities. I love sharing the magic of the dance.

F: What are your plans for the future?

WJ: I’d love to direct, produce and make documentaries. I also hope to do a reality dance show.

F: The 20th anniversary of “Power Rangers”  is coming up – anything special happening?

WJ: Yes! They are coming out with a box set of 80 DVDs of all the episodes. It may be the largest box set ever.

F: What do you know about Milwaukee?

WJ: I know there is a lot of cheese. I love the midwest flavor, people are down to earth and real.

F: Are you a Packer fan?

SJ: I only follow them on Madden. [Fashionista’s note: Boo! But we forgive you.]

F: Do you know what a peplum is?

WJ: A place where plums use the bathroom?

Not quite. If you’d like keep up with Walter Jones, follow him on Twitter @walterejones or find him on his Facebook fan page under Walter Emanual Jones.
