An interesting and complex story pokes out here and there, but the unrealistic plot sequences and clumsy gags are like a big, pregnant belly deflecting away from anything thought-provoking. After her last major film five years ago, Lopez returns to the big screen as Zoe, a woman who tires of waiting for the right guy and gets artificially inseminated. It’s not until she’s pregnant, however, that she finally meets her dream man (O’Loughlin). Lopez is adequate at conveying the dating mother-to-be’s inner conflict, but O’Loughlin is stale and uncharismatic. Though Watkins (a Saturday Night Live alum) is humorous as the wacky but wise friend, Nutsy the Boston terrier and all his mugging steal the show.
