The Lorkowski sisters, still reeling from their mother’s suicide, literally clean up their lives in this off-beat, modestly charming dramatic comedy from Little Miss Sunshine’s producers. Before starting a crime scene clean-up business, Rose (Adams) is a single mom and maid having an affair with her married high school boyfriend and Norah (Blunt) is an angst-ridden slacker. It’s impossible to separate the two quirky Sunshine films because of their precocious pint-size kids, Albuquerque settings, existential tones and Arkin’s gruff grandpa roles, but Cleaning, which has tender performances from the outstanding Adams and Blunt, should be commended for its narrow examination of how capable people can be stunted by tragedy.
