Twenty-five years after the first Terminator comes this fourth installment that has too much action even for an action movie. Set in 2018, the adult John Connor (Bale) and a mysterious man from the past who’s part machine (Worthington) are fighting against Skynet, the artificial intelligence network of machines that destroys any remaining post-apocalyptic humans. Meanwhile Connor tries to save the teenage Kyle Reese (Star Trek’s Yelchin) who will eventually become Connor’s father. There’s a cool cameo from the original Terminator, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and strong performances from Worthington and Yelchin, but Bale – speaking with his best Batman growl – and the storyline are as stiff and simplistic as a machine.
