Spring Favorites

Now that spring has finally decided to show up, here are a few of my favorite things to refresh your home and closet. And just remember, a little indulgence goes a long way. 1. Wardrobe refresher – I love a good spring cleaning, especially in my closet. Take out the old and make room for new. Before the beginning of every season, I go through all of my clothes and get rid of anything that doesn’t fit well, is worn out, or I haven’t worn in two years. Consign at Swanky Seconds in Shorewood (or one of the many shops around town)…

Now that spring has finally decided to show up, here are a few of my favorite things to refresh your home and closet. And just remember, a little indulgence goes a long way.

1. Wardrobe refresher
– I love a good spring cleaning, especially in my closet. Take out the old and
make room for new. Before the beginning of every season, I go through all of my
clothes and get rid of anything that doesn’t fit well, is worn out, or I haven’t
worn in two years. Consign at Swanky Seconds in Shorewood (or one of the many shops
around town) to recoup some cash and invest in few good staples, on top of one
or two trendy items.

2. Bright color
combos – After a winter of gray and black, it’s good for your mood to
sport bright shades like cobalt blue (especially in denim) accessories, and
structured bags, like this one (right) from J Crew. This deep hue complements
most all skin tones and is great paired with mint green. I also can’t get
enough of turquoise and bright red.

3. A classic
trench – Find a coat with your favorite details like ruffles, epaulets or a
belt, which I like because it cinches the waist and flatters everybody. Invest
in one that fits well so you can keep for many seasons to come – it’s not going
out of style anytime soon.

4. Plants – It might still be a
little cold, but try an indoor window box with flowers or herbs in a sunny
spot. You’ll be amazed what a calming effect a little fresh greenery can have
in the home. The Garden Room in
Shorewood is a great place to find charming tools and inspiration.

5. Geometric patterns – Add some bold to your life with
chevron, Greek key or striped patterns on pillows, removable wallpaper, or
clothes. Check out Chasing Paper removable
wallpaper, created by Milwaukee native Elizabeth Rees, to bring a temporary
geometric pop to nearly any surface in your home.

6. TOMS – Can’t take away my TOMS! After three pairs,
these are still a staple in my wardrobe and much more comfy than a ballet flat.
I just picked up another navy canvas pair to match my abundance of nautical
stripes. Navy is a perfect neutral for spring and much softer than black, which
can look so harsh as the weather warms up.
