Some people have a thing for handles. Take the couple who just opened a diner across the street from Columbia St. Mary’s. They are Chris and Ally Benedyk, who uprooted from Indiana several months ago to make their home in Wisconsin. Their love of antique handles influenced the name and decorating theme of their 20-seat restaurant, Love Handle (2215 E. North Ave., 414-271-1093). The couple is also channeling a love for such varied foods as charcuterie and ice cream into their menu. Facebook — @LoveHandleFoodDrink — is their method for advertising the daily menu. On this, the Benedyks’ opening day, they are offering — the Love Handle sandwich, with pork belly, tomato jam, sorrel and black garlic mayo; the Cynthia sandwich, with duck confit, pea shoots and peach marmalade; smoked beef brisket soup; and small plates such as duck croquettes and beef-heart bresaola. Desserts include roasted pistachio ice cream, taleggio ice cream with candied pistachios, churros with spicy chocolate. Sunday brunch is also in the works. Sounds tasty. Hours: Tues-Wed 10 a.m.– 10 p.m.; Thurs-Sat 10 a.m.-midnight.
