Reptar
Tuesday, Oct. 25: Reptar and Canopies at Cactus Club, 9 p.m.
Start with one of the city’s finest electro-pop acts, Canopies. Then, chase it with an up-and-coming Vagrant Records band that killed it at this year’s SXSW and has earned (rather accurate) comparisons to such bands as The Talking Heads and Animal Collective. It reads like a recipe for one hell of a Tuesday night club show. (2496 S. Wentworth Ave., cactusclubmilwaukee.com)
Also: Frank Turner at Turner Hall, 6:30 p.m. ($12)
(1032 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
Wednesday, Oct. 26: Method Man at The Rave, 7 p.m. ($21.50 to $26.50)
At the ripe old age of 40, Clifford Smith—better known as “Method Man”—has spent more than half his life with a mic in his hand. The Wu-Tang Clan member parlayed his on-stage success into an acting career on campy stoner flicks like How High as well as renowned cable programs Oz and The Wire. Though he’s set to release a third Blackout! album next year with longtime friend Redman, Method Man takes to the stage alone this time around. (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., therave.com)
Also: Lights at Turner Hall, 7 p.m. ($12)
(1032 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
And: Future Rock at Miramar, 9:30 p.m. ($12)
(2844 N. Oakland Ave., themiramartheatre.org)
Thursday, Oct. 27: White Mystery at Frank’s Power Plant, 9:30 p.m. ($7)
To my knowledge, The Carl Palmer Band and Delhi 2 Dublin do not feature red-headed siblings playing dingy rock tunes in either of its bands. The same can’t be said for Chicago band White Mystery. Advantage: White Mystery. (2800 S. Kinnickinnic Ave., frankspowerplant.net)
Also: Carl Palmer Band at Pabst Theater (Lower Level), 7 p.m.
(116 W. Wisconsin Ave., pabsttheater.org)
And: Delhi 2 Dublin at Turner Hall, 7 p.m. ($12)
(1032 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK
Friday, Oct. 28: They Might Be Giants at Pabst Theater, 7:30 p.m. ($25)
Friday kicks off a weekend absolutely brimming in scary-good Halloween shows. Between tribute shows,

well-timed Milwaukee appearances of always-costumed bands like GWAR and Insane Clown Posse, and other notable headliners booked specifically to help ring in the holiday, it’s certainly quite the weekend for live music in the City Of Festivals. The fact that They Might Be Giants’ appearance at the Pabst Theater warrants extended mention over any of those shows only serves to prove how talented and significant TMBG has become over the last 30 years. Shelve the costume one night longer and shuffle your holiday schedule to make this concert a part of your weekend. Gold Motel opens. (116 W. Wisconsin Ave., pabsttheater.org)
Also: Trampled By Turtles at Turner Hall, 8 p.m. ($20)
(1032 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
And: GWAR and Every Time I Die at The Rave, 8 p.m. ($19.50 to $24.50)
(2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., therave.com)
Saturday, Oct. 29: Insane Clown Posse at The Rave, 7 p.m. ($27)
I wrote this in a post last October, and I think it still holds true.
“Consider this less of a musical recommendation and more of a quality-of-life recommendation. You should probably just steer clear of The Rave, unless you’re a sucker for “miracles” like people purchasing Faygo soda to spray on one another, clowns rapping about taking hatchets to people and Insane Clown Posse being considered a viable form of artistic expression by a paying audience.” (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., therave.com)
Also: Jaill at Club Garibaldi, 7 p.m. ($10)
(2501 S. Superior St., clubgaribaldis.com)
And: Straight No Chaser at Riverside Theater, 9 p.m. ($30 to $38)
(116 W. Wisconsin Ave., pabsttheater.org)
Sunday, Oct. 30: Orgone at Turner Hall, 7 p.m. ($10)
Though funk bands aren’t exactly known for their work ethic, L.A.’s own Orgone has been doing their part to buck preconceptions, which has helped the decade-old group creep closer to becoming a widely-known entity. Sunday’s show is just one of many Orgone tour stops—that stretch deep into January. (1032 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)
Also: The Terror Pigeon Dance Revolt! and Kane Place Record Club at Linneman’s, 9 p.m. ($6)
(1001 E. Locust St., linnemans.com)
