You may see through my idea of quick hits this week as a way to disguise that I don’t have a really good topic for my blog. You’re right. I’m thinking that since this is a blog (which sometimes I forget while I’m making believe I’m some sort of NY Times columnist), I can do that. In reality I’ve got a really juicy concept in the works that won’t play out for a few more days so my plan is to blog on that in the next couple of weeks. I’m sure you’ll be on the edge of your seats ‘til then. In the meantime…
Other than the joy and pride I felt at the news of Osama bin Laden’s killing, the best thing about the whole deal was that the text of President Obama’s speech announcing the news had supplanted the maddeningly annoying “Politifact” daily column on page two of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Monday. They continue to run the thing, every flippin’ day, and I’m sorry but I’m sick and tired their “false” or “pants on fire!” claims. I’d love to send that column to the same place Bin Laden will be spending eternity.
I must confess I was enraptured by the royal wedding. Yes we watched almost all of it. But the thing that struck me the most was how cool William and Harry are. Would they be fun to hang with or what?
Easter was a week ago Sunday as you may remember. I wonder how can Easter be in late April some years and in late March others? Who makes that decision anyway?
Regardless of your political views, doesn’t Assistant Attorney General Joanne Kloppenburg have the worst hairdo in the world? I’m thinking that while she’s waiting for the results of the recount she should find a new stylist.
The Brewers are two games below .500 right now, and have lost three in a row. They seem to be a little sluggish lately. I think that’s partly because their new outfielder Nyjer Morgan has been on the DL for a couple of weeks (he comes back today). But don’t you just love the way he plays? He never stops. He body-checked two catchers in the first two weeks of the season, separated them from the baseball they were holding, and scored a run both times. When have you ever seen a Brewer do that? Of course it helps Morgan was a hockey player (and a pretty good one). Hockey players know how to check, baby. And of course they have padding to prevent the deep thigh bruise that greeted Morgan on his second encounter with a catcher. Hence the DL. Welcome back Nyjer!
Considering all that’s been going on, its hard to top all the big news. But the highlight of the last week for me was going to the Brewer game Wednesday afternoon with my daughter Christy and my grandson Logan. Being able to do that, as they say, was priceless.
