The Muscular Dystrophy Association will be announcing today at the Harley-Davidson headquarters that Reagan Imhoff, 8, from New Berlin will be serving as the organization’s National Goodwill Ambassador in 2014.

MDA raises money for muscular dystrophy and ALS research, and Reagan was diagnosed at age 1 with spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), described as “a progressive neuromuscular disease most commonly diagnosed in infancy.” According to MDA, “The biggest potential problems in SMA are respiratory muscle weakness, swallowing muscle weakness and back muscle weakness with progressive spinal curvature.”

That being said, Reagan appeared on the 2012 and 2013 MDA telethons, and you can see more about her life in the segment below.

It’s the job of the organization’s Goodwill Ambassador to advocate on behalf of children and families affected by SMA and other diseases. Reagan just finished three years as Wisconsin’s state-level ambassador.
