More Adventures with the Diamond Man

Craig Husar, owner of Lyle Husar Designs, isn’t just any jeweler. Along with being a graduate gemologist, he has definite cool-guy points that are more than skin deep. For five years he dove and excavated a Spanish shipwreck off the coast of Key West, Fla. He was a part of bringing millions of dollars worth of artifacts to Florida museums, including prized raw emeralds. Obviously this guy is credible and knowledgeable, and that’s exactly why I went to him for what’s new and trending with jewelry. Let’s start with a girl’s best friend! Diamonds

Round diamonds continue their reign as most popular choice for engagement rings. Why? They look the biggest and sparkle the most. In second place are the square cut diamonds: princess, cushion and asscher cuts. As far as metal settings go, white gold and platinum still hold strong. A gorgeous setting style that is gaining popularity is the “halo effect,” smaller diamonds encircling a larger stone, and is called “blooming the stone” (pictured above) at one of the most recognizable brands in the United States: Tacori. While I was there I had to try on one of the largest stones in sight, a four-carat cushion cut Tacori. Wow-za!  Looking for something extra unique? They have a program to completely design your own ring from every angle.

Guys

Generally the gal is the one to receive two rings (engagement and wedding band), but now guys can get in on it, too! By this I mean, a “nice” ring and a “play” ring. The nice ring is made out of gold, platinum or palladium (with diamonds if you choose!) and meant for at the office, out to dinner, etc. What about when he’s working around the house, on the car or in the yard? We still want everyone to know our man is TAKEN, and thus the “play” ring was born. The “play’ ring is something he can switch to that can take a beating while getting down and dirty. The affordable cobalt is becoming a favorite material for this purpose, as the metal can be resized and there’s not the we-can’t-cut-through-the-ring-in-an-emergency issue.

Fashion Jewelry

Color is making the rounds in many areas of fashion and it hasn’t left out jewelry! Blue stones in particular are becoming popular–maybe it has something to do with coordinating perfectly with 2012’s color Tangerine Tango? Eh?  Aquamarine, Topaz, and Turquoise are some favorites, as well as fresh water pearls in varying shades of blue. Gold and rose gold are being mixed with white and silver so it has become clear that mixed metals are completely acceptable!

New On the Scene

Look inside that stone. See how it looks raw and sparkly? Stones made to look like part of it was chipped away to show its inside are popping up and catching our eye. The same look is being mimicked in metals. The particular stone pictured above is designed locally by Craig Husar’s sister, Christine Husar-Anderson. You won’t be seeing these pieces on everyone!

One thing that really stands out for me about Lyle Husar Designs is how they make you feel when you walk in. I’ve been snubbed at jewelry stores, as well as followed around like a desperate car salesman. They offer the perfect balance and definitely make you feel comfortable. Their credibility and honesty is exemplary, rest assured that they will take care both you and your jewelry.
