Raj Chetty grew up mostly in Milwaukee, where he was the valedictorian of his 1997 class at University School. He is now a tenured economics professor at Harvard, a position he’s held since he was 29. Now 33, he has been named by The Economist as one of the top young economists in the country. And yesterday, the MacArthur Foundation announced that he is one of 23 “Genius” grant recipients, an award that cannot be applied for, and offers a no-strings-attached $100,000 award every year for five years.  Sound familiar? And yesterday, the MacArthur Foundation announced that he is one of 23 “Genius” grant recipients, an award that cannot be applied for, and offers a no-strings-attached $100,000 award every year for five years. 

Sound familiar? Growing Power Inc.’s Will Allen and Tara Donovan, whose artwork has been on exhibit at the Art Museum since May (and ends Oct. 7), both won the award in 2008.

Claire Hanan worked at the magazine as an editor from 2012-2017. She edited the Culture section and wrote stories about all sorts of topics, including the arts, fashion, politics and more. In 2016, she was a finalist for best profile writing at the City and Regional Magazine Awards for her story "In A Flash." In 2014, she won the the Milwaukee Press gold award for best public service story for editing "Handle With Care," a service package about aging in Milwaukee. Before all this, she attended the University of Missouri's School of Journalism and New York University's Summer Publishing Institute.
