Tonight Betty Evans Quadracci, president and publisher of Milwaukee Magazine, will be inducted into Milwaukee Press Club’s Media Hall of Fame. Quadracci will join the ranks of newspaper editor-turned Civil War-era brigadier general Rufus King, former Journal Sentinel golf editor and amateur golfer Billy Sixty, and longtime JS television and theater critic Mike Drew.  Quadracci has been at the helm of this magazine since 1983 and under her stewardship Milwaukee Magazine has garnered more than 200 national and state awards. Quadracci has been at the helm of this magazine since 1983 and under her stewardship Milwaukee Magazine has garnered more than 200 national and state awards. At the 2012 City and Regional Magazine Association Awards, Milwaukee Magazine won in the criticism category. 

Also joining Quadracci in this year’s Hall of Fame are WISN’s Chief Photographer Cary Edwards, former WITI news director and current faculty member at Poynter Institute Jill Geisler, local gallery owner and author Dean Jensen, and longtime columnist and reporter at the Door County Advocate Keta Steebs. 


In 2008, the editors of Milwaukee Magazine wrote a piece detailing the magazine’s transformation under the Quadracci’s ownership. From the article:

In June [2008], Betty Quadracci will have served as publisher for 25 years, by far the longest tenure of any publisher in town. “I have no regrets,” she says. “As we got into this, we realized we could effect change, we could provide leadership to the community. That was very important to Harry and me. That came from the heart.”

The magazine’s January issue will mark the 30th year of publication with Quadracci as publisher.

Claire Hanan worked at the magazine as an editor from 2012-2017. She edited the Culture section and wrote stories about all sorts of topics, including the arts, fashion, politics and more. In 2016, she was a finalist for best profile writing at the City and Regional Magazine Awards for her story "In A Flash." In 2014, she won the the Milwaukee Press gold award for best public service story for editing "Handle With Care," a service package about aging in Milwaukee. Before all this, she attended the University of Missouri's School of Journalism and New York University's Summer Publishing Institute.
