I believe in Sisterhood and I believe in women supporting and lifting one another.
Unfortunately I don’t think women get together often enough to network and engage in dialogue. I had lunch the other day with a woman who says her church recently started a group called Sister Saturdays where women ages 20-80 get together to talk about everything from love and sex to mental health to professional and personal development. It got me to thinking: we need more of this!
Women need to come together to fellowship and not worry about the man shortage in the room or competing for a guys attention. I didnt realize it was bad until I witnessed the claws come out over a woman’s gay male bestie when he stepped away to talk to another friend. True: we do some harsh things to each other, but I’m convinced that this is not how we largely are or wish to be.
And as important as social engagement is, women also need to engage in networking that will expand their professional circles to open up doors to other career opportunities and professional development.
I’m pleased to announce a Ladies-Only networking mixer/cocktail party is scheduled for June in the Third Ward.
