La Merenda owner Peter Sandroni is fond enough of Walker’s Point – and National Avenue – that he’s opening another restaurant there. A breakfast and lunch joint in an old firehouse dating to 1904. He’s planning to call the restaurant Engine Company #3 (217 W. National Ave.). End of July is the projected roll-out month. Sandroni has talked about wanting to run a breakfast joint for years. The menu will be a mix of sweet (French toast, pancakes) and savory, and it’ll also “take from influences” from its sister, La Merenda (125 E. National Ave.). So expect some dishes with an international flavor. With the interior, Sandroni says he hopes to keep the “integrity” of the old firehouse. More details to come.
