State Sen. Kathleen Vinehout’s statement about Mary Burke’s announcement that she’s running for the Democratic nomination for governor isn’t quelling either speculation that the legislator could run for her own shot at Gov. Scott Walker, or the Republican line that Democrats are grasping at straws and headed for a divisive primary battle.
You might call this damning with faint praise, a few backhanded words of encouragement or even a snub. Undoubtedly, there’s a little something to read between the lines.
I wish Mary Burke the best. Politics is fun, exhilarating and important. Running for office is a great education. Everybody should do it at least once.
Which would be more explicit, except Burke did run successfully for the Madison school board. The Trek family member’s other experience in government comes from serving as state commerce secretary between 2005 and 2007.
Vinehout has won two elections to the state senate and came in a distant third in 2011 in the Democrat primary for the gubernatorial recall.
