Tuesday, Oct 12: Jukebox The Ghost, Elizabeth & The Catapult, Ruby Coast at The Cactus Club, 9 p.m.

We have to hand it to the people over at Muzzle of Bees. Not only does the site do a stellar job covering the Milwaukee music scene, but they also enrich local music firsthand by booking up-and-coming bands. Most recently, the blog pulled some strings to bring Philadelphia three-piece Jukebox The Ghost to The Cactus Club. Fresh off a slot at this year’s Lollapalooza and just weeks removed from an appearance on Letterman, this might be your only chance to see the pop-rockers in an intimate club setting, as they seem destined for larger venues sooner rather than later. MUSIC NOTES SHOW OF THE WEEK

Wednesday, Oct. 13: Iron & Wine, Heidi Spencer at The Pabst Theater, 8 p.m. ($25)

Iron & Wine, the stage name of Southern crooner Sam Beam, combines intricate guitar work and sincere lyrics into one beautiful package. Lauded more with every release, Iron & Wine’s reputation grows in unison with its music catalog. The project has also found a niche in Hollywood, having been featured on numerous soundtracks and in the background of TV shows. Beam and his badass beard will both drop by The Pabst Theater to lull onlookers into a sweet and intoxicating musical coma – folking everyone up. Heidi Spencer opens. (144 N. Wells St., pabsttheater.org)

Thursday, Oct. 14: Flyleaf, Story of the Year at The Rave, 7 p.m. ($20)

Although they’re not really my cup of tea, Texas quintet Flyleaf has managed to build quite a following since making its mark with 2005’s self-titled album. The radio rockers elude being an otherwise cookie-cutter band du jour with the sultry siren song of front woman Lacey Mosley. Similarly, St. Louis’ Story of the Year looks to match the flash-in-the-pan success they found in 2003’s Page Avenue one bland nu metal ballad at a time. (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., therave.com)

Friday, Oct. 15: Brewcity Bruisers Fifth-Anniversary Party at Turner Hall, 7 p.m. ($10 or $6 w/ canned food donation)

To mark the fifth birthday of Milwaukee’s beloved roller derby team and to get people ready for the approaching season of bouts, the ladies of the Brewcity Bruisers have decided to throw a party. Turner Hall will play host to a night of local music and an assortment of “Terror Shows” fitting for Milwaukee music aficionados and roller derby fans alike. Celebrated Working Man, Juniper Tar, Suicide Chicken, and D.J. Dori Zori are set to appear. (1042 N. Fourth St., pabsttheater.org)

Also: Juiceboxxx, DJ Tarik, Big Freedia & The Divas, Rusty Lazer at Stonefly Brewery

Spirited self-proclaimed “rager” Juiceboxxx is far and away the most accomplished rapper in Milwaukee, a city struggling to establish a viable hip-hop presence. Before taking his unique beats and unmatched energy to Asia for a late October/November tour, Juiceboxxx will treat locals to a hearty helping of Thunder Jams before venturing to the Orient. (735 E. Center St., stoneflybrewery.com)

Saturday, Oct. 16: Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax at The Rave, 7 p.m. ($39.50)

From the people that brought you one half of the Jagerbomb, the Jagermeister Music Tour presents a metal head’s nocturnal emission. A trio of metal heavyweights – Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax – converge on The Rave for a night of head banging, guttural screams and that thing where people make devil horns with their hands. Struggling to find that romantic Sweetest Day gift for that special person in your life? Look elsewhere. (2401 W. Wisconsin Ave., therave.com)

Also: Chronicles – A Tribute to Rush at Club Garibaldi

Awesome. (2501 S. Superior St., myspace.com/clubgaribaldis)
