There’s a dilemma many of us come across while shopping for a dress… too short, too low, too tight “right here”, too moo-moo…
Seriously, how hard does it have to be to find a sexy, classy dress without spending a fortune?
I once had a black tie event at which I knew everyone would be wearing Chanel – and my dresses from the Macy’s clearance rack just weren’t cutting it. As fashion fate would have it, I crossed paths with Heidi Calaway, owner of BVEN Boutique on Brady Street, and she invited me to take a gander at her store in search of the perfect dress. I was thrilled when she plopped EXACTLY what I was looking for in to my hands: a black vintage-style 1950s dress by Stop Staring.

The collection is made from modern fabrics that stretch where you need extra space, and hug your curves in the most complimentary way without sacrificing comfort. Heidi showed me an entire catalog of the dress line that you can special order right if she doesn’t have what you’re looking for in stock. The dresses come in a plethora of colors, shapes and sizes. With a happy price tag right around $150, I knew I’d be back for more. All the dresses boast an ultra-feminine hourglass shape and feature sweetheart necklines and pencil skirts with pleats. Many of the hemlines hit just below the knee, and small button details allow the eye to easily dance across the dress.
I wore my Stop Staring dress to my black tie event and danced the night away, never having to adjust it once. And, I received many compliments to boot. I’ll take it!
