As an editorial and advertising photo stylist involved in countless dining and food shots, I’ve developed a real passion for well-appointed tables. Whether it’s at home or on the job, I really enjoy ferreting out and pulling together an interesting mix of the elements needed to create “tablescapes” ready to embrace all sorts of style and dining experiences. Which brings me to the finishing touch offered by beautiful table linens. On April 30 (11 a.m.-4 p.m.), Three Wishes (a boutique always filled with all sorts of wonderful gifts) is hosting a Garnier-Thiebaut Trunk show. During the event, shoppers will save 20 percent on tablecloths, placemats, runners, aprons and dishtowels picked with the help of visiting representative Diane Baker’s scores of vivid color and unique design swatches representing all this luxurious French line has to offer. They’ll also receive a free dishtowel with the purchase of any tablecloth. Seriously, I’ve got a slew of ’em that even after countless washings look as great today as when they were new. If you’re not familiar with this line – whose heritage goes back to the early 1800s – this is a fine opportunity to see just why their beautifully made linens grace the tables of such venerable establishments as the San Regis, the Savoy and The Four Seasons. 304 E. Silver Spring Dr., 414-837-5062.
This Valentine’s Day my buddy Kippee turned 4. I know… Valentine’s Day… too sweet huh? To celebrate we headed off to Eco Pet for a little somethin’ somethin’ special to mark the day. Well this weekend, April 30 & May 1(11 a.m.-5 p.m.), we’ll be stopping in again to help the pet boutique celebrate its very first birthday. Now if we’re on our toes and get there early on Saturday, we could be among the first 25 dog, cat, bird or small animal owners to receive a free gift bag. But hey, even if we’re a little pokey, given that the boutique is holding a raffle of $10-$50 store gift certificates and offering savings on pet food as well as up to 30 percent off all kinds of fun pet toys, treats and accessories, we’ll still come out ahead. Or I might just call ahead to set up a 20-minute appointment ($40) with Stacy Krafczyk (voted Top Dog Animal Communicator by WisconsinWags.com) who will be sharing her insights at the store on Sunday (noon-4 p.m.). It might be good to get an inkling on just what Kippee’s thinkin’ these days. 129 E. Brady St., 414-226-1920. For more info on Stacy, visit allspirithealing.com.
Because getting and keeping a job these days is hard enough for just about anyone, now imagine you’re a guy in need who is trying his best to re-enter the work force. How you gonna dress the part when your closets are bare? Well, that’s where Milwaukee-based nonprofit Diva-Divo comes in. Providing free, work-appropriate clothing, their aim is to help applicants (referred to them by approved agencies and organizations) make the very best first impression they can. Feel like helping out? Head out to Harley’s April 28-30 with some of the stuff you’ve got hanging around in your closet that you no longer need or want to donate to the cause. Not only will you get a nice warm fuzzy for doing a good deed, but the store will also step up with a 20 percent discount on any like item purchased as you renew or restyle your own wardrobe. All donations tax deductible. 3565 N. Oakland Ave., 414-332-3404, harleys4men.com, Diva-Divo.org.
