In this raunchy somewhat sweet comedy, newly engaged nice guy Peter (Rudd) has no guy friends and needs a best man ASAP. The film’s saddled with stereotypes, however, as he goes on a series of man-dates with either gay guys or macho men until he strikes up a bromance with self-assured, wild Sydney (Segel). While exploring a male friendship’s good fodder, the script’s not elevated beyond frat boy humor and hyperboles (Sydney’s a “man” because he inhabits a man-cave but discovers his sensitivity watching Chocolat.) A supporting cast of Jane Curtain, J.K. Simmons and Andy Samberg are criminally underused, but Rudd and Segel carry the movie with their awkward, warped comedic charms.
