Well, this should be a kick.
Two prominent Milwaukee soccer bars are teaming up and facing off to raise money for the purchase of children’s soccer balls. Patrons of Bay View’s Highbury Pub (2322 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) and Shorewood’s Three Lions Pub (4515 N. Oakland Ave.) are staging a Saturday-morning soccer skills contest, dubbed the Champions Challenge.
Participants will be bused from their watering holes to a neutral field (to be publicly announced at 6 p.m. today), where they’ll rack up points for their respective bars in events such as penalty kicks and a trivia challenge. The caravan leaves Highbury at 9 a.m. Saturday and Three Lions at 9:30 a.m. The winning pub’s players lift a giant trophy, though no word on whether the ceremony feature a giant confetti machine.
Afterward, victorious and vanquished alike will be bused back to their pubs, where they’ll watch the slightly more skilled players of Bayern and Dortmund compete in Champions League final.
Those who want to reserve a roster spot for one of the pubs can register here with the Milwaukee Soccer Development Group. Cost is $25, and proceeds will be used to buy soccer balls for Milwaukee Recreation and Milwaukee Public Schools.
