Howie Magner

What the Flock?

During golf season, about a dozen of the woolly residents of Whistling Straits have free run of the courses. But 2015 PGA Championship golfers won't have to worry a bout any baaaaad shots....

Howie Magner

Barring an in-game tour by elementary school students, Howie Magner is routinely the shortest person in Milwaukee-area press boxes. The University of Tulsa grad joined Milwaukee Magazine in 2007 as an associate editor and became a senior editor in 2012. His recent in-depth features have touched on such disparate topics as Lombardi-era Packer Lionel Aldridge’s saga of surviving racism and mental illness, a profile of unconventional arts booster and beer brewer Mike Brenner, a look at the military veterans inside an oasis called Dryhootch, and the Magner family’s personal journey toward adopting two Haitian children. Prior to joining the magazine, he spent 15 years covering sports for newspapers in Oklahoma, Ohio and Michigan, winning more than a dozen awards for everything from spot news to features to columns. He’s also earned multiple honors from the Milwaukee Press Club, twice for the magazine’s online Sports Nut column. He's often a guest on area sports talk radio stations and talks sports monthly on WUWM's "Lake Effect." You'll find him on Twitter as @howiemag, and when he's interviewing basketball players, he hopes they're sitting down.
