Caledonia’s Dylan Hoffman, 7, has won this year’s Doodle 4 Google Contest.
But he did a little more than doodling, we say, to best some 114,000 fellow entrants, including high-schoolers.
The drawing by Hoffman, a student at the Prairie School in Racine County, will run Friday in place of the Google logo and appear on all computers accessing the ubiquitous search engine from the U.S.
Well done, Dylan.
Google asked students to answer the question, “If I could travel in time, I’d visit (blank),” in both written and visual form.
Dylan’s reply was the drawing below, plus this statement: “If I could travel in time, I’d visit Pirate Times. I would like to sail a pirate ship looking for treasure, have a colorful pet parrot and enjoy beautiful sunsets from deserted islands.”
Ahoy!
Dylan is also getting a $30,000 college scholarship and can take credit for the $50,000 technology grant Google will be awarding to his school. Not too shabby. But of course, that is one rockin’ sun.
UPDATE: Ryan Germick, Google’s Doodle Team Creative Lead, says of the winning logo, “With so many amazing entries to our time travelling
theme, picking a winner this year was especially tough. Dylan’s design stood
out because it’s so darn delightful. And while it may look simple at first
glance, there are actually many wonderful details packed in [the] constraints of the
letters. From the pirate’s beard to the parrot’s beret, from the curve of the
ship’s bow to the tiny fuzz on the coconut tree, it’s clear that this was a
labor of love.”
