The beer festival season is in full swing, and we all benefit. The Wisconsin Beer Lover’s Festival, which takes place from 1 to 5 p.m. on Saturday at Bayshore Town Center, is certainly worth paying a visit. More than 30 breweries (Central Waters, New Glarus, Lakefront, O’so, Tyranena, etc.) will be on hand, as well as several chefs from local restaurants offering items to pair with your frothy drink. Attendees can even try oddities like ice cream beer floats and beer-flavored cupcakes (you read right). Don’t know what to get dad for Father’s Day? Taking him to Glendale just might make you his favorite. A $40 ticket lets you sample all of the beer and food that you want. Designated drivers can purchase a $20 ticket good for food only.
Speaking of Beer and Ice Cream…
…why not combine the two? It’s already being done, and this article on craftbeer.com gives you the beer ice cream rundown. It’s complete with recipes, so you can try to make the stuff at home. Butter pecan with a malty finish? I’m game.
Barley Pop of the Week
I mentioned before that I’m trying to sample all of the beers that made the “Best Beers in Wisconsin” list that we put together for Milwaukee Magazine’s July beer issue. So, this week the featured beer is Ale Asylum’s Bedlam! (hint, hint). I picked up a six pack at Discount Liquor Milwaukee, and after opening the first bottle it’s clear to me that Bedlam! is one of my favorite “new to me” beers of the year. The Belgian IPA has a hoppy aroma but a flavor filled with citrus and a smooth tinge of hops. It’s darn good.
Quick Taps
Beer clubs just make sense. The Puddler’s Hall (2461 S. St. Clair St.) beer club meets every Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. where members sample a few different beers and discuss their findings with beer guru “Whispering” Jeff Platt. It’s just $12 for the first visit and $8 after that (samples are included).
The monthly recap from Untappd.com, which shows me every beer that I drank over the course of the last 30 days, is a little scary. A whole lotta calories are being consumed so that I can write this blog.

Saturday, June 16: What can make the quaint scenery of Door County even better? The Door County Beer Festival in Bailey’s Harbor of course. Taste the creation of more than 40 breweries, try food pairings and attend beer-related seminars. The event takes place at Town Hall Park and runs from 12 to 6 p.m. General admission tickets are $35 in advance and $40 at the door.
Saturday, June 16: The third annual Cottage Grove Brew Fest runs from 1 to 5 p.m. at Fireman’s Park in Cottage Grove. For just $30 (at the door) you can sample Sprecher, Lake Louie, New Glarus, Milwaukee Brewing, Tryanena, and more.
