Get Your Cupcake On!

Vicki Carl and Kelly Wilson met on a Little League field in 2010, and the rest soon became history. Vicki Carl and Kelly Wilson met on a Little League field in 2010, and the rest soon became history. Fusing their passion for baking and marketing, they set out to provide gourmet cupcakes to a hungry market in the Germantown area and beyond.

The girls started out small, hosting community events, and selling cupcakes to friends, family, and a few area consumers. They put their name on the map by offering non-traditional flavors like strawberry margarita, chocolate espresso, almond cherry, and hot fudge sundae. Within the first few months of business, Kurt Schulz Deli lent the ladies a hand by offering to sell their gourmet cupcakes at the deli.  Soon after, the ladies approached Aldo’s Pizza & Pub, who also decided to include their cupcakes on their restaurant and catering menus.

But, the best was yet to come.  In spring 2011, Chris and Carol Nardo owners of The Bake Shoppe and Nardo’s Passport Inn, approached Vicki and Kelly with an exciting proposal.

The Bake Shoppe, which opened in 2009, was tucked around a corner in the strip mall just south of the Flower Source on Pilgrim Road.) The bakery offered a wide array of mouthwatering breads, pies, pecan rolls, butterhorns, and other desserts, as well as artisan breads and a lunch menu.  But, the Nardo’s had confidence that the addition of Vicki & Kelly’s products would make the bakery truly shine. So, they made them an offer they couldn’t refuse.  Vicki and Kelly would take on management of The Bake Shoppe on Pilgrim Road, and customize the business to include their cupcakes.

Kelly and Vicki were thrilled with the news.  Just one year after starting their business, they would have their own retail space.  But, they were also quick to share the credit. “We could not have done this without the support from everyone. Our husbands and children have been a source of strength for us. Every day we do not forget that they are watching us and we are their greatest example.”

Truly Scrumptious, a modern bake shop, is scheduled to open for business on June 1. Their product line will feature modern and classic made-from-scratch delights including gourmet cupcakes, cake pops, whoopie pies, muffins, scones, cinnamon rolls, coffee, pies, fondant cakes, sheet cakes, butter horns and much more.

Patrons will be able to buy product both in the bakery itself, and online through an easy-to-use online ordering system.

“WE are the only cupcake company that has the ecommerce feature,” Vicki comments.

They also have plans to extend their brand to include scrumptious merchandise. “Our t-shirts have been designed our first one will be a V-neck rib t-shirt in black with ‘Scrumptious’ on the front and ‘Truly’ on the back.”

Sounds good to me.
After all, who would turn down the chance to be Scrumptious?
