My mother Audrey, whether she knows it or not, was totally green. I do not ever remember her buying “new” decorations for Christmas! I do remember her gently unwrapping ornaments of all kinds and conditions and explaining where they came from, and how she felt about them. Christmas is all about memories that we have and those we hope to create in the hearts, and minds of those we touch in our lives and families. This picture is from my mom’s tree that we put up, “hell or high water” right after we are done eating Thanksgiving dinner. She is eclectic in her tastes, and now in her mid 80’s has simplified her decor to include mostly deer. This is an example of the type of Rudolph ornament I grew up with, back on the farm, when dreams of Christmas hinged on family, school, and church. Helping other people wasn’t thought of politically, but more of a duty you performed because it was the right thing to do. Let’s keep that in mind as we navigate the myriad stores, parties, and hoopla that surround the holiday! Let the reindeer games begin.
