Randy Sprecher Gets Props

Sprecher Brewing got into the game in 1985, well before the current craft beer explosion. Founder Randy Sprecher is being honored for his decades of brewing by the Museum of Beer & Brewing at the Karl Strauss Award Dinner. The event at the Pfister Hotel (424 E. Wisconsin Ave.) recognizes contributions to the brewing industry and is the biggest fundraiser of the year for the museum. Join the fun for $90. Reserve a spot.

Tasting Homebrews

This week, the Milwaukee Beer Society hosts a unique tasting event. On Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 6 to 9 p.m. the group heads to Best Place (901 W. Juneau Ave.) where they will be sampling homebrews. Milwaukee Beer Society members will bring their best brews, and you get a chance to try them all. And it’s a great opportunity to share brewing secrets with the experts. The cost is just $10 for non-members.

Barley Pop of the Week

I went to Dallas last weekend and had the chance to sample some of the best barbecue I’ve ever had at Pecan Lodge in the funky Deep Ellum area. The brisket was ridiculous, and it was made even better by the Deep Ellum Brewing IPA that I washed it down with. It was citrusy, refreshing and moderately bitter (not bitter enough to overwhelm the delicious smoked meats on my plate). If you find yourself in Dallas, head to Pecan Lodge and order a delicious Deep Ellum IPA while you wait in the long line to order.

Quick Taps

Romans’ Pub (3475 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) is closed until October 6 for vacation. Keep that in mind.

This week’s specialty beer served during the Lakefront Brewery fish fry (Friday from 4 to 9:30 p.m.) is Cream City Pale Ale with Jones Family Farm Harvest Hops.

Yahoo Travel recently posted a fun list of the oldest bars in every state, including of course Wisco. We’re trusting them for accuracy.
