One of my favorite collections for Spring 2012 was brought to life by the whimsical mind of designer Chris Benz. His mastery of print mixing and color blocking isn’t for the faint of heart, but that is his gift and genius. At the same time, his use of soft draping juxtaposed with more tailored pieces plus casual accessorizing made his collection both relevant and accessible. Taking cues from the 60’s through the 80’s with a little bit of 40’s glamour thrown in, he put it all in the blender and came up with a winner.
A piece from this look here and a piece from that look there could easily be pulled into any smart woman’s spring attire. The vaguely retro sunglasses added a bit of mystery, and his use of tennis shoes with some of the ensembles was playful as well as youthful. His ideas challenge the blah and mundane, and ask us to step up our thought process when it comes to color and pattern.
The make up with its soft green and cat eyeliner on the lids, worked well with the coral kewpie doll lips. Big, textured hair isn’t for everyone, but you can’t deny that it pulls all the elements of this stupendous collection together.
