Bay View’s The Vanguard Opens Friday Oct. 31

Kinnickinnic Ave.) opens today at 5 p.m. The debut menu features 14 kinds of sausage, including smoked sausage, cheddarwurst, a hot dog, brat, and hot banger. A couple of veggie versions, too. Bay View’s The Vanguard (2659 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) opens today at 5 p.m. The debut menu features 14 kinds of sausage, including smoked sausage, cheddarwurst, a hot dog, brat, and hot banger. A couple of veggie versions, too. Dipping sauces include deviled avocado, burnt ginger, and house Cheez Whiz. That’s just the beginning, my friends. Chef Shay Linkus (formerly of Odd Duck) is also doing sides like duck nuggets and three kinds of fries. The bar menu includes an extensive bourbon and whiskey list, along with draft and craft cocktails and micro and craft beers. Co-owner Jim McCann is also a partner in Michelin Star-awarded Longman & Eagle gastropub in Chicago. His partner Chris Schulist is a 13-year alum of Cactus Club. The Vanguard’s hours this weekend and early next week: Fri-Sat, 5-11 p.m. Closed this Sunday. Mon-Tues 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Eventually the hours will be: open daily, 11 a.m.-2 a.m.
