Milwaukee Beer Week ended on Saturday. Congrats to all of the bars (and drinkers) that participated in what turned out to be an amazing week. The beauty of Milwaukee Beer Week was the fact that many of the events revolved around rarities. Beerophiles got a chance to sample some hard-to-find brews from Goose Island, Central Waters and Founders, to name a few. And that’s really a big part of what a good beer week is all about.
Another Ray’s Event
Early notification is essential for events at Ray’s Wine & Spirits (8930 W. North Ave.). So clear a space on your calendar for May 15. That’s when Ray’s hosts a tasting of beers from Tallgrass Brewery. Cost is just $20 and you can get tickets here. If you plan to go, buy your tickets now.
Barley Pop of the Week
Hoppy Bock Lager, the first beer in New Belgium Brewing’s Hop Kitchen Series, came out a few weeks ago. I recently tried a Hoppy Bock and thought it was a pretty solid beer. The light colored pour is crisp at first and finishes with a nice hop bite. The combination makes it pretty refreshing for a hoppy beer.
Quick Taps
A friend of mine was in Long Island and asked a bartender at a restaurant what beers they had. He was told they had a “very good list” and the picture at the left is the menu he was given. Seven bucks for Michelob Ultra? I think not.
Founder’s says that some barrel-aged Doom IIPA will make it to Wisconsin. If so, it’ll be here fairly soon. It’s one of the most intriguing beer releases in a while.
Get your fill during Milwaukee Beer Week? Ready for more? Madison Craft Beer Week starts May 3.
