Ale Asylum Comes to Milwaukee, Sort Of
Ale Asylum River House is taking over the spot once occupied by Molly Cool’s Seafood Tavern (1110 N. Old World Third St.). At first glance, I thought (hoped) that Madison’s stellar brewery would be opening a brewing facility Downtown. But that’s not quite the case. The new spot is basically related to the brewery in name only, but owner Tim Thompson does plan on serving Ale Asylum brews exclusively at the outset. Learn more about the details from the Wisconsin State Journal.

Amherst Beer Fest

The second Greater Amherst Beer Fest takes place at Central Waters Brewing (351 Allen St., Amherst) from noon to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 11. The tap list is pretty impressive. Founders is bringing KBS and the new Dark Penance Black IPA, Perennial will tap Sump Coffee Stout, Coronado will have the 18th Anniversary Imperial IPA flowing, and there are plenty of more gems being served. See the growing list here. Take a trip to Amherst this weekend. You won’t be sorry.

Barley Pop of the Week

I had a nice a surprise while visiting Greenbush Brewing last weekend in Sawyer, Michigan (for those keeping score, it’s my second time there this year). A printed menu listed Dystopia Imperial Stout, but when I got my snifter of the black stuff it was clear that Greenbush was pouring the barrel-aged version of Dystopia. It was rich, sweet, slightly boozy, and altogether delicious. A perfect beer to usher in the fall.

Quick Taps

For the umpteenth year in a row, I did not go to the Great American Beer Festival in Denver. Bucket list.

A friend sent me this sarcastic, pretty funny and occasionally realistic list of 43 types of beer drinkers.
