Boone & Crockett
The folks behind the Hotel Foster have another gem on their hands. Boone & Crockett (2151 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.) has the obligatory solid cocktail list, but the Bay View spot also had a small but solid tap selection. On a trip there last week, I downed a Boulder Nitro Mojo IPA, a Dark Horse Crooked Tree IPA, and had a taste of a Petrus Aged Pale sour beer. The plan is to replace spent kegs with a different beer; this ensures an awesome amount of variety. I expect the Bay View saloon to be a friend to beer aficionados for a while.
Barley Pops of the Week
A couple of local breweries have added a couple of options perfect for summer. Lakefront Brewery’s Wisconsinite is a nice crisp weiss made entirely with ingredients from Wisconsin. The low 4.2% ABV means you can enjoy a few.
Those who prefer a little more hops in their glass can choose Sprecher’s latest brew, Hooligan English Pale Ale. The fairly light ale features a slight hoppy bite (it’s no face punching hop bomb) and clocks in at 4.9% ABV, making it another sessionable summer beer.
Quick Taps
The recall election may be contentious, but Three Cellars (7133 S. 76th St.) is non-partisan. Proudly wear your “I Voted” sticker to Three Cellars on June 5 and you get half-price beer taps and half-price wines by the glass. That’s one election promise I can get behind.
It’s hard to argue with Esquire’s selection of Milwaukee as the Bar City of the Year a couple of weeks ago.
