A lethal virus wreaks havoc across the globe. Two minutes in, you’ll think, “Oh God, I shouldn’t watch this right now,” before grabbing sanitizer. This flick predicts COVID-19 unbelievably well thanks to impeccable research from screenwriter Scott Z. Burns and director Steven Soderbergh, whose style captures both the cold detachment of a pandemic in which millions of lives become a statistic and the personal tragedy. Jude Law and Kate Winslet are cast standouts. Multiple characters, multiple continents and a short runtime keep it thrilling. Contagion will stick with you like the damned, deadly germs on your dirty, unwashed hands.
Archer is the managing editor at Milwaukee Magazine. Some say he is a great warrior and prophet, a man of boundless sight in a world gone blind, a denizen of truth and goodness, a beacon of hope shining bright in this dark world. Others say he smells like cheese.
