5 Ways to Destress While Waiting For Election Results

Feeling a little stressed? Here are some ways to distract yourself.

THE 2020 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION may just be one of the most controversial elections in United States history. Here are a few ways to unwind as we anxiously await the final results tonight, tomorrow or however long it takes.

1. Order Takeout

Take away the stress of cooking tonight and enjoy a meal with family and friends by supporting a local Milwaukee restaurant instead. We have a list of four election night specials, but if you’re still looking for food tomorrow, here’s a list of 200+ restaurants that are open in the Milwaukee area this fall.

2. Treat Yourself to a Relaxing Spa Treatment

Sounds relaxing, right? If you feel like treating yourself, get on the calendar for a service of your choice at local oasis Neroli Salon & Spa where they have massages as well as hair, nail and skin care services. Or, for a more affordable spa night, take a nice, hot bath or shower, and throw in a scented bath bomb if you’d like. Then put on your coziest pair of sweatpants, apply a face mask and turn on a relaxing playlist.

3. Light a Scented Candle

Glassnote Candle Bar makes handmade, all-natural soy wax candles and original scents. While all candles are hand-poured in the back, customers can take part in the scent design process in the front. Take home your own customized candle and meditate, read or listen to your favorite music as you await the election results to come. Cream City Soap Co. is a similar shop that sells an array of bath, body, hair and home products that are healthy and sustainable for the environment. Some of their soap collections include vegan handmade soaps and premium aromatherapy products.

4. Watch a Movie

Need a little distraction? A movie might be just what you need. For a fun political movie about our home state, consider Irresistible, a comedy film directed by Jon Stewart about a Democratic politician who helps a retired Marine colonel run for mayor in a small town of Wisconsin. Although this film only got a so-so review by our resident critic, a local film about a fictional election that has much lower stakes, might be the right fit.

5. Treat Yourself to Some Custard

Go for a late-night drive to Kopp’s Frozen Custard to try their new flavors of the day: Donkey Trail and Elephant Parade, perfectly themed for the election. Donkey Trail is a specialty flavored custard with Butterfinger pieces, Oreo cookies and peanut butter. Elephant Parade is a chocolate-flavored custard with chocolate-covered peanuts, old fashioned malt powder and peanut butter. Leon’s Frozen Custard is another great option for similar late-night treats. They are open daily from 11 a.m. to midnight.
