2.
Black Nativity
What Is It?
This play by Langston Hughes is a relative newcomer to the Cream City cultural scene.
Why Should I Go?
Hughes was one of the best writers of his generation, and the gospel music that accompanies his script is delightfully catchy.
Who Will Be There?
Locals who want to support black excellence in their community, or create a new holiday tradition.
When?

3.
The Nutcracker
What Is It?
The Milwaukee Ballet Company’s most popular annual show, with over 200 dancers.
Why Should I Go?
The beautiful dancing. The beautiful music. And the beautiful costuming. The show, simply put, looks and sounds as good as any sugarplum.
Who Will Be There?
Lots of kids (on their best behavior because they don’t want to wind up on Santa’s naughty list).
When?
Dec. 7-26

4.
Messiah in the Basilica
What Is It?
Composer George Frideric Handel’s best-known work, performed by the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and its chorus.
Why Should I Go?
Handel’s famous “Hallelujah” chorus is enough to recommend this show. And the Basilica of St. Josaphat is enough to recommend the MSO’s version.
Who Will Be There?
Serious music aficionados, plus devout Milwaukeeans looking to be reminded of the “reason for the season.”
When?
Dec. 19-22
