1. NOW Outdoors Wilderness Adventure Group

With more than 6,000 members, this is one of the biggest outdoor adventure groups in the area. All skill levels are welcome to join in on expeditions, which are led by professional guides. Plus, the group offers social events that teach skills like backpacking, wild edibles and compass navigation.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

2. Women’s Hiking Group for Southeastern Wisconsin

This little Facebook group just launched in spring, but it’s growing quickly. It started when Amy Hankins commented on a Wisconsin women’s hiking page saying that she was looking for a buddy to hike with. She hoped for one or two responses. She received more than 400. So she launched this group as a space for women in the area to find pals with whom to hit the trails. “There’s such a need for this,” Hankins says.

3. Urban Wilderness Explorers

Join in on monthly hiking trips with this Milwaukee-based group, which travels to trails throughout the state. Eddee Daniel is the leader – and also a seasoned photographer and writer focused on conservation. Cameras are welcome but not necessary, and the group is open for all skill levels.
