Ta-da! Lake Park Bistro (3133 E. Newberry Blvd.) What never quits at this Bartolotta-owned restaurant is the elegant French-country decor. Tip for a romantic date? Ask for one of the tables next to the windows in the dining room on the east side of the building. And consider sharing the Dover sole, filleted table-side, or having the steak frites, all to yourself.
Second Place: Odd Duck (2352 S. Kinnickinnic Ave.), where the small plates (lamb kofta to daikon radish schnitzel) give the notion of “ordinary” a healthy kick in the pants.
Third place: Story Hill BKC (5100 W. Bluemound Rd.) jumped into this category for the first time with its brand of “Upper Midwest” cuisine. Don’t miss the crispy cast-iron chicken and Story Hill steak!
