Discovery World, along with the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and other local institutions with nerd cred, are getting into the spirit of this year’s Wisconsin Science Festival in a big way. Nanoscience: Small Things Make a Big Impact

➸ It’s never too early to teach your kids about cutting-edge science. This tutorial will take over Brinn’s “Be a Maker” space.
Park After Dark: Exploring Riverside Park’s Nocturnal World
Urban Ecology Center: Riverside Park Branch; Oct. 23, 7-9 p.m.
➸ S’mores, owl hunting and nocturnal eavesdropping on the natural world are promised for this fun-oriented outing in the wilds around the Urban Ecology Center.
A Freshwater Odyssey Revisited
UW-Milwaukee School of Freshwater Sciences; Oct. 24, 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
➸ Special tours at the School of Freshwater Sciences will explore the university’s water work and where it’s headed.
The Hunt for Einstein’s Elusive Gravitational Waves
Kenwood Interdisciplinary Research Complex; Oct. 24, 5-6 p.m.
➸ This is definitely an event for the big kids and grown-up ones. Two physicists from UWM will describe the hunt for these waves predicted by Einstein.
