Milwaukee Restaurant, Chef Are Nominated for James Beard Awards

The winners will be announced on June 5.

The James Beard Foundation is back in the news. The organization just announced the nominees for the 2023 awards and a couple of Milwaukee restaurants are in contention.

Lupi & Iris – co-owned by James Beard Award-winning chef Adam Siegel –  is up for Best New Restaurant. Open since May 2022, the spot inspired by the French and Italian rivieras is featured in our Top 25 Restaurants feature (March 2023). You can read more about it in this August 2022 dining review.

In the Best Chef: Midwest category, Gregory León of Amilinda (315 E. Wisconsin Ave.) is one of the five nominees.

Madison also has some solid representation, with three chefs among the nominees – Francesco Mangano of Osteria Papavero, and Itaru Nagano and Andrew Kroeger of Fairchild. If you haven’t been, Fairchild, featured in our Foodie Road Trip in August 2022, is a delight.

The next date to commit to memory is the awards! That’s Monday June 5 (6 p.m.) at the Lyric Opera in Chicago.
