1. Cafe con Arte: “Celebrating our Shared Roots”

FRIDAY FROM 8:30-9:30 A.M. (ENGLISH) AND 9:30-10:30 A.M. (SPANISH) | LATINO ARTS INC.

Sip on some coffee, eat a churro and go on a tour of Latino Arts’ current exhibit “Celebrating our Shared Roots,” led by managing artistic director Jacobo Lovo. You’ll learn about the art and the symbolism and techniques used in the pieces. Tours are offered in English and Spanish. Registration is $5.

2. Live Funk

FRIDAY AT 5 P.M. | SAINT KATE – THE ARTS HOTEL

Saint Kate – The Arts Hotel is hosting a night of free live funk music at its bar. Grab a drink or some food and listen to tunes performed by Michael Cudahy’s band, featuring local musicians.

3. Baseball, Bullseyes and Brews

FRIDAY AT 6 P.M. | NORTH SOUTH CLUB

As part of its Tasting Series, the North South Club is hosting a night of baseball trivia, ax throwing, craft beer and sample snacks from J. Leinenkugel’s Barrel Yard Kitchen. Reserve your lane with up to six people for 90 minutes of throwing and sampling – and get two Brewers ticket vouchers per person.

4. Candlelit Concert 

FRIDAY AT 6:30 P.M. AND 8:30 P.M. | THE ABBEY AT ST. JAMES 1886

The Listeso String Quartet will perform Vivaldi’s Four Seasons and more classics at St. James 1886 this Friday. The historic venue will be lit up with candles for an atmospheric performance. Get tickets online

5. Born Loud!

FRIDAY AT 7 P.M. | 822 S. WATER ST.

Comedian and speaker Dina Nina is stopping by Milwaukee on her Born Loud! tour, sharing her experiences as a trans woman and making history as the first elected trans woman of the Madison, WI common council. Tickets are available online. 

6. Rhythmic Revolution

FRIDAY FROM 7-9 P.M. | MILWAUKEE YOUTH ARTS CENTER

Hear the sounds of percussion and jazz performed by the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra. The show features performances by their Calypso and Soca steel pan bands. The event is pay what you can and showcases pieces from student’s Jazz studies programs.

7. Student Directed Play: Wrong Window

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY, MULTIPLE TIMES | OCONOMOWOC ARTS CENTER 

Oconomowoc High School’s student directed play Wrong Window is going on stage this weekend. The Alfred Hitchcok-inspired play takes place in New York, centered around Marnie, Jeff and their suspicious neighbor. The show is recommended for ages 14 and up. Tickets can be purchased online.

8. Mozart at the Bradley Symphony Center

FRIDAY AND SATURDAY | THE BRADLEY SYMPHONY CENTER

Bernard Labadie is conducting Mozart’s Symphony No. 40 this weekend, featuring Matthew Ernst on the trumpet. The Mozart piece “celebrates the trials and triumph of the human spirit.” Tickets start at $26. 

9. Winter Carnival

SATURDAY FROM 10 A.M.-4 P.M. | LYNDEN SCULPTURE GARDEN

Workshops, art-making, ice skating, scavenger hunts and winter walks are just a few of the many activities coming to the Winter Carnival at Lynden Sculpture Garden. Pedro’s South American food truck will be there too keeping people fed while they play in the snow. The event is free and outdoors. 

10. Ice Bear Fest

SATURDAY FROM NOON-7 P.M. | THIRD SPACE BREWING

Travel back in time for Third Space Brewing’s ’80s après-ski-themed party. Drink Ice Bear Baltic porter and Barrel Aged Ice Bear, and enjoy food, shotskis, live music, an ’80s ski gear costume contest and more. Admission is free.

11. “The Rat Pack is Bac”k

SATURDAY AT 3 P.M. | THE PABST THEATER

Bringing back the entertainment, comedy and music from the Rat Pack of ’40s and ’50s Las Vegas is “The Rat Pack is Back.” Step back in time at the Pabst Theater and jam out with the live big band. Get tickets online. 

12. Community Chatter: Frederick Law Olmsted’s Legacies in Milwaukee

SATURDAY AT 11 A.M.  | MILWAUKEE COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY

Virginia Small will give an in-depth look at Frederick Law Olmsted’s legacy and his impact on the city of Milwaukee. Learn about his design principles, the urban parks he designed and his ideas about infrastructure that shaped the city. Admission is free with purchase of a ticket to the museum

13. Woodland Pattern Book Center 30th-Annual Poetry Marathon

SATURDAY AND SUNDAY FROM 10 A.M.-10 P.M. | ONLINE ON CROWDCAST

Over 300 poets, musicians and visual artists will come together virtually to share their work in Woodland Pattern Book Center’s 30th-annual Poetry Marathon.
