Why did you choose to specialize in facial plastic surgery?

In medical school, I was drawn to the anatomy and artistry of face and neck surgery. There are few areas of the body so physically complex and emotionally loaded. I find it very rewarding to help patients achieve their aesthetic goals by delaying the aging process or addressing cosmetic concerns they may have had their whole lives.

What procedures do you perform the most?

I perform cosmetic surgery on all parts of the face and neck, but my three most common procedures are nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty), eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty), and facelift surgery.

What is your general approach to nose reshaping surgery (rhinoplasty)?

It is possible for a nose to both look good and breathe well, and I strive for both in all my rhinoplasty patients. I want to make noses look more contoured and proportionate to a patient’s face. The nose should look natural and blend into the face. However, it is also very important that we address any present or potential nasal airway issues during the procedure.

What is your general approach to eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty)?

The eyes are the main attraction of the face, so a change here can make a big impact. Both appearance and function are important factors to consider. We want eyelids that look natural, smooth and youthful with volume enhancement in all the right areas. We want to preserve eyelid strength and tone for healthy eye closure. Our results make patients look more awake, alert and refreshed.

What is your general approach to facelift surgery?

I want to make patients look younger, not different. Our goal is to turn back the clock 10 years for a patient. Going too far back can make a patient look strange or overdone. I never want my patients to look or feel that way. I utilize relatively newer deep plane techniques that provide a more powerful and natural-appearing lift. A smoother neckline and jawline bring great confidence and happiness to many of my patients.

How can patients look younger without surgery?

I recommend my patients devote time to prevention and ongoing maintenance. Good skin care with cleansers, moisturizers and sun protection from an early age makes a big difference over the course of your lifetime. Periodic skin resurfacing treatments like chemical peels or lasers can replenish youthful cells on the skin surface. Botox will hold off wrinkles that form with certain facial expressions. There is a common misconception that botox will freeze your face, but you can tailor the treatment to just soften expressions. Soft tissue fillers are great for restoring volume in areas around the eyes, mouth and cheeks. All in all, there are many great non-invasive treatments to consider.
