Where to Get Great Pho in Milwaukee

We love a good bowl of pho.

This story is part of our OUT OF ASIA feature. Click HERE to read more from our deep dive into Milwaukee’s Asian dining scene.

PHO IS A VIETNAMESE gift to the culinary world. The soup (pronounced “fuh”), lighter than Japanese ramen, usually has a beef stock to which you add cooked meat and rice noodles, bean sprouts and herbs, fresh lime and, if you like, sriracha or hoisin sauce. It is subtly aromatic and soul-nourishing.

Three good ones to try:

1. The food vendors at the 5XEN Super Asian Market: 6300 N. 76th St.

2. Pho 4 U: 3835 N. 124th St., Brookfield

3. Pho Viet: 5475 S. 27th St., Greenfield

Ann Christenson has covered dining for Milwaukee Magazine since 1997. She was raised on a diet of casseroles that started with a pound of ground beef and a can of Campbell's soup. Feel free to share any casserole recipes with her.
