What’s New in Milwaukee: October 2024

3 New Things Coming to Milwaukee This October

Check out a new jazz album, a Christmas horror book and a documentary of Milwaukee’s punk scene.

1. Heading Home

Trumpeter and Milwaukee Jazz Institute instructor Eric Jacobson leads a quintet of heavy hitters through eight original hard bop tunes on this album inspired by his life and family in Cream City.

It’s time to pick your Milwaukee favorites for the year!

2. The Deviant Vol. 1

Christmas comes early – and gory. Milwaukee-raised comic book author James Tynion IV sets a grisly thriller in his hometown about the hunt for a serial killer dressed as Santa, returning 50 years after his initial spree. The first volume will be released on Oct. 29.

3. Taking the City by Storm: The Birth of Milwaukee’s Punk Scene

This DIY documentary captures the rise of punk music in 1970s and ’80s Milwaukee through restored footage and retrospective interviews with artists, club owners and fans. It’s now free to watch on YouTube, or you can get it on DVD.
