Lifetime, the same channel that brought us The Christmas Contract and about a thousand other made-for-TV Christmas movies as sweet as a plate of sugar cookies, announced today that they’re working on their first-ever Christmas story starring an LGBT couple. And it’s set right here in Milwaukee.
The film, The Christmas Set Up, tells the story of a New York lawyer who heads to Milwaukee to spend the holidays with his brother and mother, who arranges for him to run into his old high school crush. Sparks, predictably, fly.

The male leads are played by Ben Lewis (“Arrow”) and Blake Lee (“Parks and Recreation”). And the endearingly meddlesome mother is played by Fran Drescher (yes, the Fran Drescher). According to Lifetime’s description of the plot, her character is somehow also “in charge” of all the city’s Christmas celebrations, which doesn’t really make any sense but should prove pretty entertaining.
The Christmas Set Up premieres on Dec. 12 and is one of 30 new holiday movies that Lifetime will begin rolling out as soon as Oct. 23. So plan to start mixing a little eggnog into your PSLs around then!
